Nylon (Polyamide) 12 and Nylon 6 Hose

Nylon (Polyamide) 12 and Nylon 6 Hose

In the production of Nylon 12 hoses, highly durable and flexible compounds are used (Nylon 12 has the same properties as Nylon 11).

This allows for thinner hose walls, greater flexibility, and a smaller bending radius, while also offering operating pressures ranging from 165 PSI to 375 PSI.

The compound is stable in terms of heat and light exposure and maintains its dimensional stability. Thanks to its physical properties, it is considered one of the most durable thermoplastic hoses available. It is offered to the market in inch and meter measurements, with various color and packaging options.

Temperature Range: -40°C to +90°C

Important information about nylon hose:

Nylon, also known as polyamide, was developed around 50 years ago as the first thermoplastic product.

Nylon compounds are generally classified based on the number of carbon molecules in the monomer groups that form the compound.

These carbon structures are denoted as Nylon 6, Nylon 11, or Nylon 12, and sometimes in combinations such as Nylon 6/6 or Nylon 6/12.

Many nylon compounds are hygroscopic, meaning they have the ability to absorb moisture.

Some of the more cost-effective compounds can reach absorption rates as high as 9.5%, as determined by ASTM D-570 testing.

Such high absorption rates can lead to dimensional and strength changes in plastic hoses, potentially resulting in premature degradation.

There are also hoses on the market that are made from polyamide (PA) material but are generally referred to by their nylon types, such as Nylon 6, 11, and 12.

Despite its lower cost, Nylon 6 is rarely used in hose manufacturing due to its tendency to absorb water, which leads to dimensional expansion.

This behavior can cause significant variations in hose length.

Nylon 11 and 12 are quite similar. Although they are derived from different base materials (Nylon 11 from castor oil, Nylon 12 from petroleum), they exhibit nearly identical performance.

KÖKSAL PLASTIK primarily uses Nylon 12 in its products.
